Wastewater/Engineered Wetlands Gallery

High School Campus in WI

Back to Main Project Gallery

The school has a daytime population of about 440 people and a 750 seat Performing Arts Center with a peak daily flow of 6,000 gallons.  The system has one grease trap for the kitchen, two septic tanks for the main flow, one pump chamber with effluent filters, and a duplex pumping system with controls. Flow is pumped to two parallel lined subsurface flow wetland cells, next to one Vertical Flow Wetland (VFW), then a Nitrogen Recycle pump station, then finally to one unlined wetland cell where the clean water is further polished and enters the groundwater.

This wetland was planted with over 4,000 plants with 60 student and parent volunteers. The school has incorporated the wetland into the environmental science program and the students participate in the sampling.
