New Building and Parking Area – Wisconsin
Back to Main Project GalleryConstruction Site Preparation
In preparation for construction of a new building and parking area, Sand County Environmental, Inc. (SCE) executed a number of planning and permitting actions:
- Stormwater Management, including:
- Stormwater Modeling
- Soil Evaluation Report
- Pond Permitting
- Notice of Intent (NOI)
- Erosion Control and Stormwater Management Plan
- Wetland Delineation
1.8 acres of land was disturbed during construction.
The pond reduced the total suspended solids (TSS) load from newly constructed parking areas and roadways at the Site by approximately 44 percent. WinSLAMM and HydroCAD were used to design the pond to provide at least 20 years of sediment capture and capacity for peak flows.
The erosion control and stormwater management plan were in accordance with the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) general permit No. WI-S067831-6 for stormwater associated with land disturbing construction activity.
During construction, erosion control measures included silt fence, erosion matting, tracking pads, inlet protection, and installation of a lined detention pond, per Wisconsin Technical Standards. These erosion control measures reduced the potential for erosion at the Site and reduced the sediment load being discharged from land disturbing activities. The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) was used to model the impact of various erosion prevention measures.
Wetlands were identified, marked, and protected with erosion control measures. The wetland delineation determined the land available for construction and the project was planned to avoid these sensitive areas.
